In Memorium

Today's about catching up the last week lost to The Sickness. Housework, laundry, and also getting a reading picked out for Mom's interment this Friday. Big Bro and his Wiffen are arriving on Wednesday, so I want the place to be ready for them. Peege and Beck are here Thursday, staying in a hotel. I am really looking forward to having my family around me again.

And of course I'm chomping at the bit to get to Mass. We've decided not to waste over $700 on an eleven-year-old car that keeps cropping up new problems. If I get this job I'm waiting for, I will purchase a good pre-owned car and leave this one to Bizarro for in-town driving. It is more economical to rent a used car via the place we've done before and have a safe, solid car to drive out in. I had thought to ride with Peege and family and rent a wreck when I got to Mass, but I need the alone time that driving can offer me. Road-tripping with my bad self.

I am ready for adventure, new sights, new experiences, new thoughts, new feelings, new insights. Let the Games begin!

I have arranged to spend some time at a surf shop in Scituate to do some research for the TV pilot I'm still working up. Gotta get some real-life people to inspire this thing. Also going to take a stab at writing a rom com this summer, which is way out of my comfort zone, but I need to change things up from the artsy/fantasy stuff for a bit. My manager friend says my idea so far is pretty conventional, so I need to spice it up. And you know in rom com spice often = raunch. Not so sure how well I can write raunch. I'll get back to you on that.

An actual post...

I've put up a lot of LOLs in the last couple weeks, so I figured it's time for a bona fide post.

This week was meh. Classes went well, though I am reminded that I have to be more on top of shit now that I have 2 sections of the advanced class as well as the 1 credit dropping at the community college. It's fine; I'm just getting used to the schedule and workload after what amounted to an extended winter break.

I have applied for 2 full time positions at area colleges; I remain cautiously optimistic about my chances. By this time all the HR departments in the area should know my name because I apply for everything (haven't gotten a single interview - well not entirely true but the interviews I had were for a summer program and a one-semester only gig). No interviews for the jobs with legs, I should say. Now with the community college experience under my belt, I'm hoping I will be more attractive to these places. Apparently only working at snooty private colleges and universities isn't good enough.

I'm gettin' my fix of Hawaiian ear snacks with Na Palapalai. Incidentally, Peege (my nephew) and I found our one main area of differing tastes re: Hawaiian music. I still laugh at the memory of his "contributions" to the tunes I played when he was here last month.

Some updates

Back in NY now. Had a decent time in Mass, all things considered, but it was good to arrive home to a clean apartment and my wonderful huzzbinnd.

I woke up this morning feeling oddly refreshed and more than that - feeling centered. I have now accepted my "new" role as mom ages. I'd spent a good month feeling angry and resentful that my life was being put "on hold." Now I see that this IS my life - ALL of it. None of it is bad, unless I create the interior circumstances for it to be ugly.

Mom and I have an appointment at the only assisted living facility that takes SSI. I have been all over their website and have spoken to their on-staff social worker, and so far I am impressed. We'll see how it goes. It's going to have to do, because no place else in this godforsaken place takes SSI. Yah - one more example of how this supposed-wannabe progressive liberal town doesn't practice what it preaches. 90% of the assisted living places are for rich folk.

I am leaving to go see Mom in a few minutes. I'm a bit nervous - will my calm crack under the weight of seeing her in a cast? and if she starts crying? But hopefully the info I've collected on the assisted living place will cheer her up (it looks awfully appealing, and the menus are outstanding).

But before I close, I will leave you with this. My nephew edited this after our BBQ in his backyard last week:
