Another good day at the community college. Although I am sick (again), but despite that we had a good class. I know I'm doing things differently from what other teachers are doing but I like what's going on in the class. I'm taking them step-by-step in the process of writing a paragraph with guidance and help from exercises in the book before they have to turn in their first of 8 paragraphs for a grade. This Friday we'll start working with grammar. I'm serious. This could be it for me. My calling (for the day job, you understand).

I enjoy teaching screenwriting, but I know there's no real future for me at the Other School on the Hill as far as possible full time work. I feel like there is more for me to mine at the community college. I'm building bridges, gaining experience there, etc. Although I don't want to settle in this area permanently, I will definitely need a full time gig for Bizarro to attend grad school full time.

Despite being sickly, I'm in a good mood. The weather this week is fantastic - high 70s and sunny. I plan to hit the lake up this weekend in any way possible.

Tonight is Leverage - one of the TV shows that inspires me to write. And the Red Sox are playing the Rays tonight - they won last night so let's see a repeat performance!

The sea of love

I've been swimming every day this week - either the pool or the lake. My arms and shoulders know it; I feel great!

Yesterday I tried to go swimming at the pool but there was no lifeguard on duty. Because we had showers earlier in the day, they thought it was fine to send the lifeguard home and save some bucks, apparently. Whatever. I stopped at the apartment for my car keys and headed out to the lake beach that is not too far from civilization (the suburbs). I was the only swimmer there, with a new storm cell rolling in. The lifeguard and his buddy looked dubious. I swam out and got a couple playful laps in before it started raining and the wind whipped up. There was no lightning and thunder, and I think I could have stayed in the water, but I didn't want to keep the lifeguard out there in the elements just so I could have a mystical experience swimming in the lake during a rain storm.

By the time I got out, there were whitecaps forming. I drove to another area of the park so that I could sit and watch the water. In the right conditions even a Finger Lake seems to have a personality.

Bizarro and I figure we'll be here for another three years or so; he's going to go for his M.S. and I'm just going to write and work my ass off so that we can build a brighter future. This means making best friends with the Finger Lake that's practically in our backyard. I want to know everything there is to know about the lake so that I can write some kind of crazy memoir about my life on the lake and the mystical path of awakening that these waters have afforded me.

Shoot, what else is there to do in the City on the Edge of Forever?

Dusk to Dawn

Right now I feel as if the dawn is only a couple hours away. Soon it will be a new day stretching out ahead.

Yesterday Sue and I spent 9 hours working in Mom's apartment, packing and throwing out and organizing. It was a mammoth chore and I would NOT have been able to make it through without her amazing, tender, spirited, positive help. Even though she's not online to read this, I want to shout a loving thank you to the Universe for Sue H!

Next weekend is the move! I think the hard part is over, to be honest. Loading a truck and getting things to their new homes will be a cinch compared to yesterday.

Of course, we still need to rearrange OUR apartment to accommodate the influx of new furniture and belongings that are pouring in. This will be a challenge, to be sure, but I still think yesterday was the worst of the entire process, as far as the move itself goes.

Mom's spirits are up, and I was very proud of her yesterday, getting through a difficult day of deciding things to keep and things to toss. I know it was emotional for her, but she held up like a trooper, and I made sure to tell her numerous times what a great job she was doing, as did Sue.

Friday I discovered a wonderful new favorite spot, which I returned to today with friends Tim and Leigh from out of town. The sun is out, the temps are balmy (for late October) and the kite surfers were out there! I finally met in person one of the surfers I've been emailing with. I am now fully committed to getting ready for windsurfing in the spring - they have a face to the name and that means I can't chicken out!

The rest of today I am organizing myself for the week and will do some writing. Mood: optimistic but a bit tired.

Last but not least: lots of positive can-do-it energy to PMP who is doing her A-exam tomorrow. I know she will sail through, answer the hard questions, and impress them with her knowledge base and her dedication to the research. GO, PMP!
